Background and compositionEdit

"What About Your Friends" was written by Dallas Austin and TLC member Lisa Lopes. It was produced by Austin and features T-Boz on lead vocals. Musically, its an uptempo R&B and hip-hop song with traces of pop music in its composition that talks about friends who betray others and knowing who your real and true friends are. The remix featurs one of the first appearances by OutKast.

Music videoEdit

The music video was filmed in a park where all three members of TLC appear to be singing, dancing and having fun with their friends and even some family members. Jermaine Dupri also makes a cameo appearance in the video.

Commercial performanceEdit

"What About Your Friends" reached #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming the group's third consecutive top 10 single and reached #2 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. The single was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. In the United Kingdom, the song peaked at #59 on the UK Singles Chart.
