group TLC that was recorded for their third studio album FanMail. It was released as the second promotional single from FanMail and was released around the same time "No Scrubs" was sent to radio stations. Despite not ever receiving any official commercial release, the song managed to peak at #38 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. Left Eye's rap verse in the song was later included in the music video for TLC's single "Unpretty".

Background and compositionEdit

The song was written by James Harris III, Terry Lewis, Tony Tolbert, Tionne Watkins and Lisa Lopes and was reportedly inspired by the Janet Jackson song "What About", which is featured on her 1997 album The Velvet Rope. The song is a mixed bag that shifts back-and-forth from a subtle acoustic guitar-driven melody to a hardcore hip-hop throwdown that contains elements of dirty rap.

On initial pressings of FanMail, the explicit version of "I'm Good at Being Bad" featured a sample of Donna Summer's "Love to Love You Baby", but later pressings removed the sample, thereby shortening the song's length from 5:39 to 4:37. The clean version of the song, however, never removed the Donna Summer sample, but did remove the last fourteen seconds of the song, shortening the song's length from 5:39 to 5:25.
